Hi there guys, this is my first time here and so a big hi goes out to you all
My name is Jamie Frost, 18 years of age, I currently have one tattoo on my left arm, bearing the word 'Frost' in a form of old english in black ink and I am very proud of it.
For my next piece of ink I want to get full arms done in a style of Maori, that circles around my old tattoo and reaches up to the shoulders, from the wrists.
From the research I've done into Maori tattoos it is very disrespectful and foolish to either copy someone else's (especially someone from the tribe) or to take a design based on how 'cool' it looks, because it could mean weird variety of things.
From what i understand the general Maori tattoo that isn't frowned upon by members of the tribe is called something like a 'Kirituhi' which I think means art, from the Maori culture. So my question was are there any literature around that go into depth about these designs? or any websites I can visit that can further my understanding of the tattoos so I can judge better what I want.
As I'm no tattooist I'm guessing that explaining my wants to an experienced artist will allow them to create a design that fits in well with my idea and that is not going to lead to me offending anyone, but background knowledge would be helpful.
Thanks for your time
If anyone wants to know my motives for wanting a large tattoo at a young age i'd be happy to provide it

Hi, I'd just like to advise you against getting a Maori tattoo. Either accept you want a Maori themed tattoo because of the looks and get one you like or don't do it.
