Depends on location, partly... Some states, it's illegal to tattoo someone under a certain age, regardless of parental permission. Check your local laws. If you don't know how to, call a city official, or your elected official within the state (I'm assuming you're in the US here, otherwise sub "province" for "state"). If the idea of calling someone to find out scares you, then don't get a tattoo. Another consideration is who's going to do your tattoo. A lot of reputable artists will not touch someone underage, due to how a growth spurt will distort an image, or the belief that people change too much over these formative years, and a tattoo that's loved at age 16 will have to be lasered or covered up by 20. If you do find someone who doesn't ID you, take a second and think about it. Is this guy/gal reputable? Is the shop clean? Don't do something stupid just to get ink a year or two ahead of schedule! And for the love of gawd, go to a shop. Your stupid friend who made a tattoo gun from an electric toothbrush and boiled guitar string is going to give you an ugly tatt that might scar up even uglier, or give you something nasty. GO TO A SHOP! And if the regulations in your area allow it, you get your folks to agree to it, and you find a good artist, make sure you take the time to find a design you absolutely love and has personal meaning to you! Personally, I carry tattoo designs in my wallet for at least six months before I get inked, to make sure I don't get sick of it - and I've gone through many, many designs that way. Just my $0.02 - and it's Canadian money, too! www.Tat2.ca
